Katie Waring


Katie Waring comes to the University of Pittsburgh from Rochester, NY, where she recently completed a year of service through the Rochester Youth Year Fellowship program. She graduated magna cum laude from the State University of New York at Geneseo in 2015 with a B.A. in Creative Writing. At Geneseo, she was the Managing Editor of the SUNY-wide literary journal Gandy Dancer for its fall 2014 issue, which was a finalist for the AWP National Program Directors’ Prize for Content in an undergrad lit journal. Her work has appeared or is forthcoming in American Literary Review, The Rumpus, Gravel, and others.

Katie teaches composition at Pitt and has previously taught nonfiction, fiction, and graphic prose at the University of Virginia’s Young Writers Workshop. She is currently working on a collection of research-based lyric essays that explore the history of the Craig Colony for Epileptics in Sonyea, NY. She spent a month in Germany this summer conducting independent research for her manuscript thanks to a Nationality Room Scholarship and an English Department Research & Development Grant.
