We are incredibly proud of our Writing Program alumni, whose accomplishments over the past 20 years include major book publication and literary prizes such as the Barnard Women Writers Award, the Nelson Algren Award, The Drue Heinz Literature Prize, and the Whiting and Tufts Awards for emerging writers.

In addition to publishing an impressive number of books, our alumni have won or been finalists for:

  • Fellowships from the Pennsylvania Council on the Arts

  • Slapering Hol Press chapbook competition

  • Flannery O’Connor Award for Short Fiction

  • Wordstock 10 Short Fiction competition

  • International Association of Business Communicators’ Award of Honor in News Writing and Feature Writing

  • National Magazine Award

  • National Poetry Series contest (judged by Yusef Komunyakaa)

  • Cleveland State University Poetry Center Open Competition

  • Fence/Motherwell Prize

Beyond book publication, our graduates have found many ways to create a literary life. They work for nonprofit literary organizations, host literary radio shows, review books, maintain literary blogs, teach outside the academy, and volunteer for literacy programs. Read featured testimonials from our alumni to learn more about all the ways in which our students have succeeded professionally.
